There are several study sources out there to help you prepare for the permit test. You should start with the South Carolina driver’s manual. In addition to this, there are mobile app practice tests available.
Start by looking over the driver’s handbook. Read all of the 8 short chapters making sure you pay close attention to sections that are bold, bulleted and/or highlighted. Next, check out all of the great online sources such as practice tests and mobile apps. This is by far, the best way to study for the South Carolina permit test.
You should take some time and read the entire handbook. Although other study sources are excellent, the study manual gives you ALL of the information that will be possibly be on the test.

Absolutely. South Carolina wants you to get plenty of practice on its public streets and roads. Just never leave home without your licensed driver age 21 or older.
First, you’ll be expected to show the examiner that your vehicle’s basic functions work well such as brake lights, windshield wipers and headlights. You will then have to drive. Expect to go through intersections, yield to right-of-way, changes lanes and more.
The night before your road test, you and a supervising licensed driver 21 or older, can go for a ride on a couple of the actual testing routes. This will help you to know what to expect. Afterwards, just relax and look forward to passing your test the next day.
To schedule a driving test appointment, call the DMV office where you want to test at. You will have to leave a voice-mail message with your name and phone number. Someone from the DMV will call you back. Appointments are available from 2:00-4:30 Monday through Friday. You may take a road test as a walk-in between 8:30 and 1:30. Be on time because if you are 10 minutes late or more, you may loose your appointment time.

No, you are responsible for bringing your own car. Your car must be insured and registered in order to be used.
The only way to ensure passing is to practice, practice, practice. This is why the South Carolina DMV requires you to hold your permit 180 days. They want you to get adequate practice with an experienced driver.
You will be judged on how well you drive with other drivers. Your level of skill, safety, and control will be scored that day.
You will have to take a vision test first. Next, you will show the examiner parts of your vehicle such as the headlights, turn signals, four-way flashers, etc. Finally, you will be tested on traffic laws, road signs and driver safety rules from behind the wheel.
You are required to take a vision test before taking the road test. If you need corrective lenses then, you will have to use them for the road test as well.
You will be told why you failed. You then have to wait at least a week to take it again. If you fail it a second time you will have to wait a week. If you fail it 3 or more times you will have to wait 60 days before taking it again.
