Planning
The Planning Division is an integral part of the City's Community Development Department and is committed to help shape the future of Irwindale. Through a combination of both short and long range planning programs, the division helps direct and shape land use development. Through such planning efforts, the division assists in facilitating and encouraging land uses that are compatible, sustainable, and beneficial to the community.
Functions
Long Range Planning
- Develops and implements goals, polices, and action plans related to community issues such as housing, land use, resource conservation, open space, mining transportation, and circulation
- Prepares studies to update city polices in response to changes in state law, resource availability, and community goals
- Responsible for preparing and updating the state mandated general plan
- Facilitates public participation and community involvement in planning issues
- Coordinates long range planning policy efforts with city interdepartmental goals, policies, and objectives
Development Review
- Reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations on development and design proposals by private owners and government agencies
- Administers the environmental review process in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act ( CEQA )
- Ensures development compliance within the city's redevelopment area
- Provides public information and permit services at the public counter
- Answers questions from owners, applicants, and other members of the community about land use, zoning, the general plan (PDF), site plan, design guidelines (PDF), and other municipal development issues
- Reviews plans for proposed development for compliance with city zoning requirements and design development standards
- Prepares amendments to the zoning ordinance and zoning map (PDF) as necessary
- Prepares land use project proposals to Planning Commission for recommendation or approval
